Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility Requirements - Eligibility
  • An interest in children and in their welfare
  • The ability to respect and relate to people from various backgrounds and cultures in a sensitive and caring manner
  • Objective, open minded, and flexible
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Understanding of and compliance with the rules of confidentiality
  • The ability to make a minimum of one year commitment
  • The ability to accept supervision and seek feedback from trained, professional staff
  • Must be 21 or older

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Visit, at least monthly, with the child/children to which you are assigned
  • To read the records and files of the court, Social Service Agency, school, hospital, etc., regarding the child you are advocating for
  • To interview, research, and evaluate facts and circumstances of the child's life from your investigation and to make independent recommendations to the court
  • To report any incidents of child abuse and/or neglect to the Office of Community Services or local police department
